Marine Stadium Named to World Monuments Fund 2010 Watch List
The Marine Stadium has been named to the World Monuments Fund 2010 Watch List along with other sites such as Macchu Picchu and the Center Cities of Buenos Aires and Old Jerusalem.

Miami City Commission Resolution
On December 10, 2009 the Miami City Commission unanimously approved a resolution to work with Friends of Marine Stadium/Dade Heritage Trust and seek Federal and State Grants to restore the Marine Stadium. The resolution was proposed my Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, who has made the restoration of the Marine Stadium a key priority of his administration. We are grateful for the unanimous support of the City Commission and the leadership of Mayor Regalado.

December 7, 2009 Update
Tony Goldman visits the Marine Stadium-and you can see his visit by going to Marine Stadium Multimedia section of this website. Tony is the developer most responsible for the revival of South Beach. His company. His company, Goldman Properties, has also successfully renovated neighborhoods in Soho, Center City Philadelphia, Boston, and the new Wynwood Arts District. Tony is known as a visionary and his ideas go beyond anything we have considered.

Swim Miami
Swim Miami is an example of another event that can be held at the Marine Stadium. It is an open water swim that has actually been held at the Stadium. Since 2005, the event has grown from 145 swimmers to 2,000 swimmers expected for 2010. The event is sponsored by Nike Swim, a Division of Perry Ellis and is evolving into a Festival. Open water swimming is one of the fastest growing Olympic sports and Swim Miami is one of the top twenty open water swimming events in the world.

Hialeah City Council Resolution Supporting Marine Stadium
Attached is a Resolution from the Hialeah City Council supporting the efforts of Friends of Marine Stadium and Dade Heritage Trust to restore the Stadium. Hialeah has demonstrated leadership in historic preservation through their efforts to restore Hialeah park. We very much appreciate the leadership of Mayor Julio Robaina on this issue.

November 20, 2009 Update
Newly elected Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado is a strong supporter of the Marine Stadium. In his swearing in ceremony, he described the Stadium as a priority of his administration.

The Marine Stadium continues to attract terrific press, including an 8 minute segment on Channel 4, local CBS news. You can view it by cutting to the attached link.

Friends of Marine Stadium is also stepping up its community outreach-we have made numerous presentations to local organizations and we seek more engagements.

South Florida Business Journal, November 11, 2009
Mayor Regalodo promises revitalization of the Marine Stadium in his swearing in speech. For a long time, the Mayor has been a strong proponent of the Marine Stadium. He has been to numerous meetings of Friends of Marine Stadium and, in fact, he was active in protecting the Stadium even before Friends of Marine Stadium was formed.

We are delighted with Mayor Regalado's leadership on the Marine Stadium and we look forward to working with him!

October 28, 2009 Update
There are now over 1,000 Miami Marines on our email list!

Discussion of press campaign. A major story put out by the Associated Press has been syndicated by newspapers all over the country. There has also been much local press, including a story on local ABC Channel 10.

Notice of two events; November 4 exhibition and presentation at the University of Miami School of Architecture and November 10 Fundraiser for Dade Heritage Trust. The magazine format "Preservation Today" which focuses on the Marine Stadium, will be unveiled at the fundraiser.

October 13, 2009 Update
Miami Marine Stadium named to 2010 Watch List of the World Monuments Fund (WMF). WMF is the foremost organization dedicated to the protection of architectural and cultural heritage sites world wide.

Penny Lambeth and Violette Sproul will be initiating a major naional press campaign to capitalize on endorsements of World Monuments Fund and Jimmy Buffett.

On October 8, Miami City Commission decided to postpone a decision on the Virginia Key Master Plan until May, 2009. This will provide additional time to work on the plan. While the Master Plan has been much improved, we are very pleased with this result.

The City Commission will hear the redraft of the Virginia Key Master Plan on October 8. Friends of Marine Stadium are urged to attend the meeting-or if they can't make it, contact the Mayor and Commission to support the Stadium. This update notes that the plan is much improved. We do, however, have some concerns-they are described in this update.

Notice of Planning Design Workshop for Virginia Key on September 26 sponsored by the Urban Environment League.

Also, a brief discussion of feasibility. Friends of Marine Stadium has now documented 24 experienced promoters and event organizations who are interested holding events at Miami Marine Stadium. Not only does this demonstrate feasibility, but we are now in a position to sit down with groups who might manage the Marine Stadium and show them how they can create a very successful business model.

If you know of a promoter or organization who might be interested in presenting events at the Marine Stadium, please refer them to us. As our survey becomes more comprehensive, our case becomes even more compelling.
