Floating Stage Contest successfully launched. The Miami Marine Stadium received extensive press coverage in February and a sample of press is provided. Also, a discussion of the impact of Hurricane Andrew on the Marine Stadium-the Stadium was never damaged by the Hurricane. The MiMo conference of Dade Heritage Trust will be held on March 11-12 and will feature the Miami Marine Stadium. Representatives of Friends of Marine Stadium and the newly reformed Florida Inboard Racing Club traveled to Detroit, Michigan for the annual meeting of the American Power Boat Association, the sanctioning body for boat racing in the United States. The boat racing community is very anxious to have boat racing brought back to Miami.

We continue to ask Marine Stadium supporters to contact the Miami City Commission to approve the site plan. The Marine Stadium was featured in a terrific ten page cover story in Preservation Magazine, the publication of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The leaders of Miami Dade State Legislative Delegation visited the Marine Stadium and expressed strong support for its restoration.

On March 8, the City of Miami Commission will consider legislation to create a partnership between Friends of Miami Marine Stadium, the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority and the City of Miami to develop plans to restoe the Stadium. We are asking people to email the City Commission to support this legislation.
February was a very big month for Friends of Miami Marine Stadium. On Feb. 17, Robert Hammond and Phil Aarons, Co-Founder and Founding Chair of The High Line delivered a lecture entitled "The High Line-New York's Park In The Sky: Lessons for Miami Marine Stadium. The lecture was delivered to a full house at the University of Miami School of Architecture and was co-sponsored by the Miami Chapter of the American Insttitute of Architects.
We also honored Jack Meyer, engineer of the Marine Stadium at Biscayne Bay Yacht Club. The event was sold out-160 people-and featured Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, speakers from the engineering profession and the Universtiy of Miami School of Engineering, Jack's alma mater.

A smaller version of the Marine Stadium exhibit (which was developed by the Coral Gables Museum) has moved to HistoryMiami. An exhibition of photographs of the Marine Stadium by Flor Mayoral debuts at TubGallery in Wynwood. The Marine Stadium receives major publicity through articles in a European art web Magazine, Damn, The District, a national web publication of General Motors, and PokerrunsAmerica. For this month, the Marine Stadium Inspires section features Arts Entrepreneur Craig O'Neil, who is creating a program to sell limited edition prints of street art created at the Stadium as a way to raise restoration funds.

With the approval of the Memorandum of Understanding, Friends of Miami Mairne Stadium must now work very quickly to pull together plans for the Stadium. We have received a grant for $50,000 from the John L. and James S. Knight Foundation and to continue our planning and feasibility work. We have used a portion of these funds to hire the Washington Economics Group to do an economic impact study. We are now developing our fundraising plans.
The Marine Stadium has generated a signifciant amount of press recently. The Associated Press did a video feature which was syndicated to all of their television affiliates across the United States. There have also been feature articles in The Brickell Reporter and The Biscayne Times, as well as another television story by Eliott Rodriguez, Channel 4 CBS.

We are making progress on all fronts! At this point, it looks as though the $1 million State Appropriation will not be vetoed by Govenor Scott. The Baynanza Cleanup at the Marine Stadium was very successful. We continue to get additional press. This month, featured on "Marine Stadium Inspires" is artist Nereida Garcia Ferraz.

The City of Miami unveils the Master Plan for Virginia Key. Upcoming meetings of June 9 at the Waterfront Advisory Board, June 17 at the Planning Advisory Board, and June 25 at the City of Miami Commission. We are currently evaluating the plan. We urge all citizens to get involved in the process.
The Friends of Marine Stadium will accept an award from the Urban Environment League at their June 9 "Orchid and Onion" Award Cocktail Reception and annual meeting at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club on June 9 at 6:00 PM. The meeting is free and open to everyone.
Friends of Marine Stadium is applying to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to be designated as a historic site. There are nine sites in the United States. You can assist this process by emaiing memories of rock concerts at the Marine Stadium to ifseatscouldtalk@gmail.com

Gloria Estefan becomes the "Voice" of Friends of Miami Marine Stadium and will lead the advocacy effort to restore the Stadium. The Antique Boat Museum of Clayton NY-the larghest freshwater maritime museum in the United States-has agreed to try to raise funding for a satellite Museum, to be located in the proposed Maritime Center directly to the West of the Marine Stadium. A recent press event at the Stadium targeted to bloggers generated a substantial amount of press for the Stadium.
